Weybourne, East Anglia

After a dissappointing session at Gorleston, I decided on getting myself a tripod and move on to shore fishing. Heard quite a thing about Weybourne, deep water, snaggy, flatties, pebbly, so I decided to take a look. Sunday, 17 Feb, high tide at about 3 pm, calm, sunny. Arrived at about 2 pm and chose spot on the right side from car park and behind the cliff. It is quite a wonderful surrounding I must say. Right after I threw my first cast, a guy next to me landed a 4 pounder. He was using lugworm and I am only have rag with me. Unfortunately the tackle shop that supplying the baits (at Sherringham) was out of lug.
It was quite a decent session nevertheless. Lots of coddlet, coddling and a double hook. Still haven't find the flatties even I was told that the calm sea would produce flatties there. The temperature really started to drop once the sunlight is dissapearing. Finished 5 quid worth of rag by the two of us, decided to call it a day. This place is definitely to be revisited. Until the next session. Picture will follow.

Gorleston, Great Yarmouth, East Anglia

Mighty river separating Groleston to Great Yarmouth. Fairly deep waterwith pleanty of tide. I chose my location almost at the end of the pierfacing 90 degrees to nearby beach. Straight behind me are the rivers whichequally fishable. The flow however is too much for me and my line got alltwisted and nightmarish to manage.Satellite picture (google) showing fairly deep water at where I fished. Itgot relatively shallower on the river mouth and the sandbank almostnoticable by looking it the water surf and color. My first trip there (mid-January 08) was reasonably good. Managed to landplenty of codling, a crab and one unknown species. Unfortunately all wereundersize and the biggest one almost at 30 cm length. Start fishing duringafternoon which the tide is moving end. It seems to fished better at the lowtide and got fairly quiet as the tide is closing in to the full. It wasdrizzle all the way and southerly wind is blowing. Not the best conditionfor cod as I was being warned by the nearby tackleshop where I got my baitfrom. I was tipped that the bigger cod expected to be there in 3 4 weekstime which led to my second try there. I used quite a variation of bait withdouble hook rig. Lugworm work best and all the bite seems focused on theupper hook for some reason.Second trip brought me a bigger expectation. Decide to go fish at 2 + 2hours high tide. New moon so the water level difference is quite significantthe tide flowing much faster. Have to use 6 oz lead to hold my baitin-place. Weather was very nice, sunny and light wind blowing from twodifferent direction. Mainly still southerly wind. This time I was focusingon lugworm and fish at almost the same spot that I was before. 2 hourspassed, all I got was nibble but nothing hook. Ask around and so far thenonly 1 little codling were landed. At about noon time, other anglers start
pouring in. Knowing the tide flow condition, wind 'neighbour' report, Idecided to end my session early. What I would say about this spot is, there are much better other spot toexplore in East Anglia. Time to move on.

Barford Lake, Norwich

Possibly the most overstock carp lake in Norwich. The carp in this lakeranging up to about 12 lb weight (based on my personal best there). The fishwere healthy, lively and always on the feeding mode. The name 'pleasurelake' match well with the experience there. The water depth is almostconstant and it will not really matter at which peg I was fishing. The fish were rarely easily spook may due to the fact that there are lots ofthem feeding mostly on the anglers presented bait. Distance casting is notrequire especially when the sun getting low. The best bait probably thepallette sold at the tackle shop where the permit were obtained. This may bethe place for the angler to redeem the confidence after hard fishing onother water. Here you will get the frequency of the bite and hook but setback by the size of the carp. With 6 lb line and size 8 to 12 hook thatwork best for me, it will not make much different on the experience landingthe fish as the medium size carp is more agile abd lively with equallythrill. Cost: £7 for 1 day permit + £3 for bait. Last time I went there, they wereno longer giving 1/2 day permit option.
